Advanced 3D Mammography
A mammogram is an x-ray examination of the breast done in complete privacy by a specially-trained female technologist.
St. Anthony's Digital Mammography is a full-field digital capture that allows our radiologists to detect lesions at their earliest stages and offers the flexibility of a variety of views to assist in making a diagnosis.
The American Cancer Society guidelines recommend that women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram every year. Screening mammography offers the best chance of finding breast cancer early. Finding breast cancer early means more treatment options and a better chance for a cure.

Diagnostic mammograms are used to check specific breast changes found on physical exam or a screening mammogram. If you experience any of the following, please see your physician immediately:
- Lump or swelling
- Skin dimpling
- Pain or tenderness in the breast
- Unusual nipple discharge
- Rash of the breast area that will not go away
A diagnostic mammogram requires a physician order.
The Mammography Procedure:
Two views of each breast are routine. Compression of the breast with a plastic plate is needed to get the best possible image. Compression may be uncomfortable, but it only lasts a few seconds and can be reduced at any time by patient request. To minimize the discomfort, a MammoPad® provides a soft cushion. A small amount of women will need further testing because of changes seen on their mammogram.
The additional testing can include:
- Magnification views
Scheduling your Mammogram
