Theresa Rutherford, President and CEO
Theresa Rutherford currently serves as President and CEO of HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. As President and CEO, Theresa is responsible for all aspects of planning, operations, and financial management of the hospital. Theresa joined St. Anthony’s in 2013, after serving several years as Chief Operating Officer at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
In her time at St. Anthony’s, Theresa has successfully led the hospital in advancing technology, enhancing quality, increasing colleague engagement, improving the patient experience, and reflecting transparency with community members. Under her leadership, St. Anthony’s began offering robotic orthopedic surgery, the only hospital in the area with this revolutionary technology. She has also led the hospital in receiving state and national accolades for offering advanced quality to patients – being named a 2015 Bronze Award winner for Commitment to Excellence from Illinois Performance Excellence, as well as receiving The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for certification of the hospital’s Joint Replacement Program. Theresa also led the launch of St. Anthony’s “I Promise” service philosophy, where the patient-centered goals of the team complement the patient-focused objectives of every individual colleague, physician and volunteer. Through this program, Theresa met with each and every colleague as they committed to their “Promise,” reflecting the openness she shares with the staff. Theresa has also demonstrated open communication with area residents, offering Community Town Halls and launching an “Ask Theresa” communication initiative on the hospital’s Web site.
During her tenure at St. Mary’s, Theresa worked closely with the President and CEO in leading the St. Mary’s Campus Redesign of a new Lobby, ER, and Lab, as well as playing a key role with the relocation of all Prairie Cardiovascular’s Decatur services to the St. Mary’s campus. Under her leadership, St. Mary’s Hospital twice received the Bronze Lincoln Award for Quality. Throughout her career, Theresa held several positions at hospitals in Illinois and Iowa including Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg and The Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.
Theresa is a native of Coffeyville, Kansas. She completed her undergraduate degree in Nursing at Millikin University, Decatur. In addition, she holds a Master’s of Science Nursing Administration and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Ryan Jennings, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Jennings’ duties as the Chief Medical Officer are to raise the level of quality throughout the hospital and lead physicians to evolve the clinical challenges being driven by health care reform by promoting alignment between the hospital and physicians.
Dr. Jennings practices as a Hospitalist, as well as serving as CMO. He is a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Illinois in 1994 and received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University in 1998. He resided in Springfield for his residency before moving to Effingham in 2002 where he joined the medical staff of St. Anthony’s. He took on the part-time roll as Chief Medical Officer at St. Anthony’s in 2012 and assumed the role full-time in January 2015.
A native of Olney, he resides in rural Effingham with his wife and two children.
Chief Nursing Officer
Kelly has been part of St. Anthony's team since 1996. In her role, she provides leadership, managerial supervision, and resource support to improve the effectiveness of the hospital's nursing services and support areas. These areas include Medical, Surgical and Orthopedic Care, Women and Children Care, Women's Wellness, ICU, Emergency Department, Cardiovascular Services, Surgical Services (OR, Procedure Suites, PACU< Pain Management), Post-Acute Care (Home Care and Hospice), Case Management, and Pharmacy.
She is a Licensed Registered Nurse with her degree from Barnes Jewish College, School of Nursing and Allied Health at Washington University. She holds a Bachelors in Sociology from Southern Illinois University and a Bachelors in Organizational Leadership from Greenville College and a Master's in Health Administration from Bellevue University.
Director, Quality Improvement
Mary has served at St. Anthony’s since 1991. She is responsible for all quality management at St. Anthony’s, including hospital accreditation and licensure, care coordination, infection prevention and control, utilization management and denial management, evidence-based medcine, and patient satisfaction.
She received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Evansville. She also has her registered nurse diploma from St. John’s School of Nursing at Springfield, Illinois.
Executive Director, Outpatient and Ancillary Services
Mike has been part of St. Anthony's team since 2003. In his role, Mike provides administrative leadership for all outpatient and ancillary services, including St. Anthony’s Diagnostic Centers, Imaging, Outreach Services, Laboratory, Therapy Services, and Wound Healing Center.
Mike began his employment at St. Anthony's in 2003 as a Certified Nurse Assistant and has advanced at St. Anthony’s in his roles as X-ray Tech, CT Tech, Nuclear Med Tech, Outreach/Diagnostic Center Manager, and Director of Imaging and Outreach. He holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Healthcare Management.
Executive Director, Patient Experience & Support Services
Jody has been part of St. Anthony’s team for over 20 years. She is responsible for all hospital facilities and patient and visitors support systems. As an executive director, she provides leadership to the areas of Plant Services and Safety, Housekeeping, Guest Services, Respiratory, Property Development, Pastoral Care, Food and Nutrition Services and Registration. In addition to these services, she also provides leadership of Patient Experience at St. Anthony's. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Director, People Services
Christie Silvey serves as the Director of People Services for HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. She also serves a dual role as the People Services Director at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
Christie has worked in Human Resources for 13 years and has a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management. She first joined Hospital Sisters Health System in 2011.
Divisional Director, Marketing
Terriann Tharp is the Division Director of Marketing for the Southern Illinois Division (SID). Terriann leads St. Anthony's Marketing and Communications Department while also providing oversight and direction for Marketing and Communications functions across SID.
Since beginning her career at St. Anthony's in the Registration department in 1982, Terriann has served HSHS and St. Anthony’s in a variety of roles. She has served in the hospital’s Community Relations department since 1993. Since beginning the Director of Marketing and Communications in 2010, she has provided leadership for all aspects of hospital advertising, promotion and communications. In addition, she has provided leadership in the areas of Advocacy, Community Benefit, and Community Outreach.
Terriann is a member of the Alliance for a Healthier Effingham County and the Jasper County Steering Committee, both formed to address identified needs in their respective counties. In addition, she currently serves on the Board of Heartland Human Services and is a past Board member of the East Central Illinois Development Corporation.
She is a graduate of St. Mary’s of the Woods College, Indiana, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
