Dr. Sudkamp serves as organizer of national anesthesia meeting



John Sudkamp, M.D., recently served as the co-organizer of the Society for Technology in Anesthesia Annual Meeting held January 13-16 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Along with Dr. Ravindra Prasad of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Sudkamp organized the annual meeting activities and secured the faculty who presented to the 150 in attendance at the meeting.


The purpose of the meeting was to identify challenges and barriers to technology applications that significantly enhance patient safety in large and small institutions, as well as helping participants gain a greater understanding of the current state and usage of imaging technology in the field of Anesthesia. These imaging applications include ultrasound imaging, brain imaging of anesthetic-induced unconsciousness, and airway imaging and virtual bronchoscopy using cone beam technology. The meeting also offered participants an opportunity to gain an understanding of the benefits, risks, and complexity of an Anesthesia Information Management System (AIMS), among other goals of the meeting.


Some of the session topics included Electronic Health Records, Technology Applications to Large and Small Institutions, Non-Operating Room Anesthesia: Can it Work for Big and Small Institutions, Imaging Technology in Anesthesia, Technology and Safety, and Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS) Applications.


The Society for Technology in Anesthesia is an international organization of physicians, engineers, students and others with an interest in anesthesia-related technologies. The Society's mission is to improve the quality of patient care by improving technology and its application. The Society promotes education and research, collaborates with local, national, and international organizations, sponsors meetings and exhibitions, awards grants, and recognizes achievement.
